Arctic Summer nights

One of the lesser travelled routes in the Sisimiut-Kangerlussuaq backcountry is the trail between Akulliup Qinngua and Kangerlussuaq. The Western trailhead is roughly 25 kilometers East of Sarfannguit, and if you begin your hike here there is only the mesmerizing silence of hiking in the Arctic, the sound of your feet, and the Midnight sun for the first day before you hook up with the main ACT.

What’s life like out there, on the Arctic Circle Trail?

Take a sneak peak at what awaits you in Sarfannguit if you opt for the coastal route on your way between Sisimiut and Kangerlussuaq.

Life on the Arctic Circle Trail is not just about hiking. It is a year round thing, and in Winter the trail becomes a popular route for dogsleds, snowmobilers, skiers, snowshoers, and the like, and they all travel parts or all of the distance between Sisimiut and Kangerlussuaq in a quiet, rough Winter world.

In the darkness of February we decided that the plans for this summer had to be extraordinary. We decided for an active vacation with hiking in Greenland and had prior to this heard recomendations of the Arctic Circle Trail.
